Worksheets on Phonics

Phonics is a wonderful way to let your child learn about sounds and the importance of speaking properly. There are many ways the child can improve their social skills and hence speaking is important. As a child the world is about color, fun and interaction. To make phonics a fun session, we can explore worksheets and simple games to bring the element of interest. Children require a lot of variety and hence it is good if the phonics classes are not monotonous. There are simple set of worksheets or you can use it page wise so that the child is not confused. The beginning stage has to be dealt with a lot of coloring concepts. The child learns through these worksheets quite naturally.

The sessions are full of simple ideas like for e.g. the letter ‘z’ is taught with a bee buzzing activity. The repetitions in zzzz can be colored with a different color. The worksheets also indicate guidance for coloring which seems perfect to match up. Kids are usually pleased with their own work and a tiny mark of appreciation like a star or smiley adds much happiness to their milestones. Progress is assured if the guidance is given by a good teacher. To take away the similarity in concepts, you can include a drawing concept or explain children new sets of rhyming words. Here they learn more words and get to know the varied pronunciations of a single word.

Grammar when taught to children has to be very interesting. They do not understand a proper noun or common noun but if said as special names or common things, it is imbibed by them easily. Kids are very much keen to get ahead and love to participate in a group. The best part is to evaluate them generally and make a keen effort in giving them new ideas to learn phonics. Worksheets and flash cards are the primary way to teach single alphabet sounds. This can be long or short ‘o’ or‘t’. Later on blending concepts can be worked out.

Printables can be checked out on the site. It is so easy to teach them controlled sounds like in case of ‘r’. For e.g. car and bark has a different sound attached to you. If English is the main language spoken at home, children imbibe it well. But again it is better to teach with facial expressions and movement of palette and tongue how to place the vowels. The sound learning is easy if it is done with a lot of practice and revision. There are classes for adult learning in phonics. Several play schools have phonics classes to involve parents too
