English Phonetics

English phonetics is a great way to know the right sound of each and every alphabet in the language. It involves using the right accent. Accent can also be owing to cultural influence but the best thing is to have a neutral accent and then learn the new accent which is widely accepted as British or American. The base of phonics is the right way to teach spellings too which is vital for sentence formation and writing. Though children may many times question as to why ‘through’ is not th-rough (th-ruf) it is with lot of speaking and practice that they learn to modify the sounds as per the requirement. The phone about phonetics is about sound taken from the Greek word.

Most books on phonetics will show you pictures and positions of the mouth and tongue placements. The movement of the palette also helps out to mould the sound as per the air vibrations. A good speaker understands these mannerisms in order to be widely accepted as a good speaker. English pronunciation is very interesting and follows various rules and contraries to the rules. That is seen in how we pronounce ‘r’ that follows a major part of our pronunciation. Car has to be pronounced with the last r sound that makes the tongue touch the inside part of out lower teeth. Vowel sounds require modulation with jaw muscles, clenching and open mouth rounding or flat sound production.

It is true that phoneme or the sound that is perceived by a person cannot be actually derived. What we hear owing to acoustics and change in the air vibrations makes us understand the vowel sound. Hence speaking correctly with the right kind of tongue movement and modifying our speech is required so that the perception is better. This encourages better understanding that is vital for communication. Phonology works as a deep research about linguistics. Now this can be different as per the region where English is spoken as a native language. Here the sound words are deciphered originally as per the accent that is followed.

Going in-depth, phonetics is about auditory, acoustic and articulatory nature. These three types constitute the main thing about phonetics. Auditory is about the reflection of the sound heard by a person which is originated by a speaker. The acoustic phonetics is about air and how it modulates a particular sound through its vibes. Sounds come from the throat, tongue and lip movements which are seen in the articulatory part of phonetics. The study is very much done from the early times English was regarded as a spoken language. Though writing a particular word may be a matter of spellings, the spoken word does take a lot of effort which is broken down as per the three main parts of phonetics
